Amazing living legacy benefits Hepatology patients on Fletcher Ward

Mar 20, 2019

Manbai Patel wanted to thank her consultant and his team after a decade of receiving exceptional care at London North West Healthcare Trust. Initially, Manbai’s idea was to leave a gift in her will until her family suggested a way for her to see the impact of her amazing £20,000 gift.

Hepatology Lead, Dr Amar Sharif, has been treating Manbai for over 10 years as she bravely fought a liver condition that eventually became so severe it forced her to move in with her Son, Ramnik, as she struggled to look after herself and manage her illness.

“Every time my Mother has been admitted to Fletcher Ward, Dr Sharif and his team have provided great support and treatment to ensure her quality of life is as good as can be”, Ramnik said. “My mother built up a special connection with Dr Sharif and all the staff who look after her, and believes they all do as much as is possible to treat her complex condition”.

Manbai had originally expressed her wish to make a substantial donation in her will, but Ramnik and his Sister Kanta suggested that it might be better for her to make the donation now so that she could see the difference her donation would have on the Hepatology Department.

“My mother wanted to make a donation so that both staff and patients can benefit. She hopes the donation will in some small way help improve the patient experience and help Dr Sharif and the team continue to deliver great care. My Mother is convinced she is only alive today because of the treatment she has received and her donation reflects her gratitude and appreciation”.

LNWH Charity was honoured to invite Manbai, Ramnik and Kanta onto Fletcher Ward to present Dr Sharif and some of the Hepatology team with her incredible donation.

Dr Sharif said, “All of our team on Fletcher Ward are eternally grateful to Mrs Patel for her generous donation. Mrs Patel has struggled with liver disease for many years but is a truly remarkable patient champion and is a reminder our patients remain the centre of our care despite an ever evolving NHS. This wonderful gift will be used so we can continue to enhance the care of patients with chronic liver disease.
