Harrow Central Mosque Make Amazing Donation
Jan 24, 2020
The Muslim community in Harrow showed its appreciation for the work of staff at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust by generously donating £11,000 to our paediatric therapy services team.
Representatives from Harrow Central Mosque, including its founder Mohammed Ilyas, handed a cheque to LNWH Charity and staff on the Chaucer Children's Unit at Norhtwick Park Hospital, demonstrating its commitment to help the wider community.
Chairman of Harrow Central Mosque, Nasir Bashir Warsi, explained:
“It is imperative the Muslim community engages with the wider community and shows its kindness by supporting much needed local services in and around Harrow. The generosity of Harrow Muslim community is evident from the size of this donation and we hope this continues”.
The wonderful donation will be spent on specialist sensory and communications equipment to help children with specialist learning and developmental needs.
The paediatric therapy service provides physiotherapy, occupational, speech and language therapies to more than 2,000 children across Harrow, and provides support and advice to their families as well.
Head of the service, Maria Luscombe, explained to the Mosque representatives how their current resources of specialised equipment had become strained by an escalating number of children requiring therapy support, and how the incredible donation from the Mosque would make a huge difference to the service they can provide.
Jaqueline Docherty, Chief Executive of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, added:
“It’s great to have the support of the Mosque given our large Muslim community and we hope this is the start of a great relationship.”
The Trustees and Volunteers of Harrow Central Mosque have expressed an interest in working more closely with LNWH Charity and the NHS Trust in further fundraising, and by hosting a series of educational sessions about healthcare at the Station Road Mosque, covering subjects like diabetes, smoking cessation and the importance of healthy eating and exercise.
