Trust patient safety campaign puts maternal care at the forefront
Sep 30, 2021
LNWH NHS Trust marked World Patient Safety Day on Friday 17 September, by raising awareness and vital funds for the Maternity Unit at Northwick Park.
World Patient Safety Day is a global campaign created by the World Health Organisation and this year’s theme was safe maternal and newborn care, where people are being urged to act now for safe and respectful childbirth.
The Trust’s maternity teams raised the profile of safe maternal and newborn care, by hosting an online event for all members of staff. The Trust’s World Patient Day campaign was a collaborative effort with the Maternity and Corporate Quality & Patient Safety Team, with the LNWH charity supporting the campaign, by helping with the donation process and thanking donors.
Wendy George, Head of Charitable funds at LNWH charity, said:
“Improving the patient and staff experience at LNWH NHS Trust is the primary focus for our charity and we were more than happy to lend our support, to the Trust’s World Patient Safety Day.”
Bally Virdi, Patient Safety and Quality Manager at LNWH NHS Trust, led the coordination of the event with Maternity Services for the Trust’s World Patient Safety Day. Patient safety is the central focus of Bally’s work for the Trust and leading on this campaign, gave her the chance to highlight the importance of this work and also celebrate those who put patient safety first every working day.
Bally said:
“This is the first time that I have organised such a large event and it was a pleasure to lead the fundraising activities for World Patient Safety Day and I was honoured to assist our Maternity unit”.
“It’s very important to me that NHS staff improve on patient safety, share their learning and continue to work collaboratively across the Trust.”
Bally wanted to ensure that the Maternity unit staff felt valued and supported for the dedicated work they perform and thank you gifts were donated and shared amongst those teams.
The fundraising target for the campaign was £1000 but the actual amount raised was £1,100. This is an excellent effort, particularly as this is the first time Bally has ever set up any fundraising activity.
