Charity funding helps to honour past healthcare professionals

Aug 10, 2022

LNWH charity felt extremely proud to provide funding for the memorial tree, that will help people remember healthcare professionals, who have died by suicide.

Funding for the memorial tree resulted from a conversation with a doctor and author, Adam Kay. ‘This is Going to Hurt’, a book written by Adam Kay, was dramatized by the BBC and filmed at Ealing Hospital. The fictional scene where a tree is planted in memory of a doctor who died by suicide, attracted substantial media attention and so a decision was taken to plant a tree at Ealing Hospital and create a memorial.

On the morning of Thursday 4 August, representatives from two mental health charities, Professor Sir Steven Powis, NHS Medical Director for England, LNWH NHS Trust CEO, Pippa Nightingale, LNWH Charity Director, David Jenkins, local MP Mr Virendra Sharma, Adam Kay, Ambika Mod, who portrayed Shruti in the BBC production and North-West London, NHS staff, were all present at the memorial ceremony.

David Jenkins, LNWH Charity Director, said:

“The memorial tree is a beautiful way to remember and reflect on the healthcare professionals who are no longer with us.

“We are extremely grateful for the contribution they have made to the NHS and in my opinion, the memorial tree is a fitting tribute to these individuals who dedicated their lives to improving the health of others.”

As well the memorial tree, the inscription on the plaque reads as follows:

‘Shruti’s tree in memory of healthcare professionals who have died by suicide. Take care of those who take care of others.’
