Mum of 26 – week old Twins takes another NICU fundraising challenge
Aug 18, 2022
Shiksha Bhanshaly is putting on her training shoes once again and looking to raise funds for LNWH Charity, to support further development at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Northwick Park Hospital.
Shiksha delivered her 26 - week premature twin boys, Ahaan and Aarin, on 3 September 2018.
As the boys’ prematurity was so extreme, they had to receive a total of three months of care at three different hospital sites, which included Queen Charlotte Hospital in West London, Chelsea and Westminster, as well as the NICU at Northwick Park Hospital.
Shiksha commented:
“What impressed me the most about the NICU at Northwick Park Hospital, was the fact that the health care staff were so approachable and took the time to explain everything throughout the rollercoaster of a journey.”
The challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic spurred Shiksha to organise a 10K running team in August 2020. She was determined that her socially distanced fundraising activity would enable the Northwick Pack NICU to gather more medical supplies and provide an even better level of care and support.
Through donations and matched funding received from Barclays, Shiksha and her team managed to raise a very impressive £6,150.
Now Shiksha is taking on the Royal Parks half marathon on Sunday 9 October in the hope of exceeding her £500 fundraising target.
David Jenkins, LNWH Charity Director, said:
“Our charity is extremely happy to support and encourage Shiksha in her latest fundraising event.
“We thank her for her dedication and appreciation of the NICU at the Northwick Park Hospital site.”
