Breastfeeding equipment offers vital boost to mothers at the Trust
Sep 01, 2022
LNWH Charity funding is helping mothers to new-born babies adjust to breastfeeding even more, after the purchase of several crochet breast feeding demonstration sets and breast pumps.
The crochet breast feeding demonstration sets are used to help staff show mothers, who may be experiencing breast feeding challenges on how to breast feed.
The Maternity unit currently has around eight sets; they work well and so far, feedback from mothers has been very encouraging.
Sylette Hanson, Infant Feeding Coordinator, Florence Ward, commented:
“We’re so grateful that LNWH Charity has enabled us to have several crochet breast-feeding demonstration sets, because the mothers really appreciate a practical demonstration of breastfeeding.
As previously mentioned, LNWH Charity funding has enabled the Maternity unit to get breast pumps, which is really helpful, particularly if there is a high proportion of babies readmitted because they are suffering with weight loss or jaundice.
David Jenkins, Director, LNWH Charity, said:
“Our charity is extremely honoured to be helping to make a big difference to the way that breastfeeding is being demonstrated to mothers of new-born babies.
“It’s really great to know that there is already a very positive buzz from mothers, following the introduction of the crochet breast-feeding demonstration sets and we hope that will also eventually be the case with the breast pumps.”
Florence Ward is not currently using the breast pumps, as it is exercising quality control of the product and awaiting official approval first.
The Infant Feeding Team is governed by Unicef and the Trust must follow the rules and guidance set, to ensure that mothers are receiving the right level of support with infant feeding.
LNWH NHS Trust has been accredited ‘baby friendly’ since 2018.
