Thanks to Charity funding, Dr Jessie Alfonso, consultant physician in rehabilitation medicine was able to attend the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) conference recently.

Supporting training and education which would not normally be funded by the NHS but where there is evidence of need, is one of our four priorities.

Jessie said: “The AAPMR is the foremost international society for doctors of rehabilitation medicine with access to materials only available at the conference through attendance.

“I not only attended lectures to keep me updated, but also joined skills labs that provided me with hands on time and practice under highly experienced rehabilitation medicine consultants.

“It was a great opportunity for me to present two posters on behalf of the Trust from the regional hyperacute rehabilitation unit and UKROC, contributing to research and development and our reputation as a leading international specialist unit for rehabilitation.

“I attended workshops and ca ourse in ultrasound specifically in rehabilitation medicine, which is part of a renowned international qualification. A course with this content is not available in the UK and is essential knowledge for the development of our speciality.

“It’s important that I update my knowledge, enhance my skills and share my knowledge with my medical team and senior therapists who I am currently mentoring and training.

“I’d encourage colleagues to apply to LNWH Charity for funding if they would like to attend conferences or training events. It’s essential that we are abreast of new research and development in our areas of expertise, to ensure we provide the best care for our patients.”
