Inpatient unit

Inpatient unit

About our inpatient unit:

The inpatient unit has 15 individual rooms which contain a fridge and a television. There is a large and secluded garden, and a conservatory where beds can be accommodated. Visitors have use of a sitting room which has a television, microwave, and facilities for making hot drinks. We are flexible about visiting and loved ones can stay overnight after discussion and agreement with ward staff.

While on the inpatient unit other members of the multi-disciplinary team may be involved in your care such as:

  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Social workers
  • Advocacy workers
  • Chaplaincy.

Patients are reviewed daily by a doctor during the working week and out-of-hours if needed.

Patients and families are encouraged to talk to the medical and nursing staff during the patient’s stay. Before leaving the hospice, family members and carers may be asked to attend a discharge planning meeting on the ward to discuss details of care provision after the patient leaves.

Some patients may require care that can no longer be provided in their usual place of residence, because of their specialist palliative care needs, and this means that some of our patients will need to be cared for in a nursing home. This will all be discussed and agreed before a patient leaves our care.
