First Class Lounge Takes Off for Staff

May 08, 2020

LNWH Charity is proud to be supporting Project Wingman, a joint effort of various UK airline employees volunteering their time in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The inspirational project, which involves creating mini ‘first-class lounges’ in NHS hospitals, was founded by Easyjet Captain, Emma Henderson and British Airways Captain, Dave Fielding. It is now active in more than 25 hospitals, and supported by over 4,000 airline volunteers.

The lounges opened at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals at the beginning of May and are designed to offer our staff a relaxed and comforting area to unwind and recuperate.

The lounges at both hospitals are being run by cabin crew professionals who are providing the kind of immaculate service that is their trademark, supplying coffee, snacks, smiles and friendly conversation.

British Airways Cabin Crew and Project Wingman volunteer, Angela Carrabotta, explained:

“We represent the entire airline community as a whole, coming together to say Thank You to the NHS staff for their incredible work they do, and to continue supporting them throughout this crisis. Our Teams at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals are not just offering a coffee and snack: we see this as a chance to chat and pamper our NHS heroes, and show them our appreciation by giving them a moments respite from the challenges they face during this pandemic”

LNWH Charity and the Staff Wellbeing Team are proud to be able to support the amazing volunteers by providing food, drinks, coffee machines and soft furnishings to the lounge areas.

Wendy George, Head of LNWH Charity, said:

“We are delighted to be able to support Project Wingman through our COVID-19 Staff Wellbeing Appeal. Together, our amazing supporters and the wonderful Cabin Crew from BA, Virgin and Easy Jet have created a first class experience to help our staff unwind and relax before, during and after their shift. On behalf of all our staff, we would like to say a massive thank you to the Project Wingman volunteers for their hard work and positivity during these challenging times.”
