Putting our best foot forward
June 03, 2025
Thanks to your kind donations, patients with foot problems will receive better treatment.
Linda Bloomfield, a transformation fellow for surgery says:
“With the help of the LNWH Charity, we purchased a foot pressure plate which helps clinical teams to identify the best treatment for patients.”
The foot pressure plate offers several benefits for patients and clinical teams at London North West University Healthcare (LNWH) NHS Trust and key advantages include
- Detailed pressure analysis: The pressure plate provides a detailed overview of the pressure applied on the foot while standing or walking. This is particularly useful for patients who have had surgery before and experience severe pain when walking. The device can measure these pressures before and after surgery to ensure that surgery is done correctly the first time.
- Orthotic treatment guidance: The pressure plate helps guide orthotic treatment by allowing clinicians to modify shoe insoles accordingly. This can be beneficial for patients with various foot shapes.
- Diabetic foot care: The pressure plate is especially useful for the large diabetic foot population across our boroughs. Orthopaedic surgeons often get involved with patients who have non-healing ulcers or bony prominences (an area on the body where bone is close to the skin's surface, with limited soft tissue padding, such as the heels). The foot plate will help identify high-pressure points that could lead to ulcers and better treatment planning.
Ali Najefi (pictured), consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon (foot and ankle specialist) said:
“By providing a diagram of high-pressure points, the pressure plate will allow the clinical team to plan the best treatment for patients, leading to better outcomes for them.
“Overall, the foot pressure plate is a valuable tool for enhancing patient care and treatment planning at our Trust.”
