New mobile translation trolleys roll out

Oct 27, 2025

We’re thrilled that another one of the £1m projects has come to fruition.

You may remember that we donated £1m towards transformation and innovation and the translation trolleys were given the thumbs up by staff who voted for this and three other projects to go ahead.

One hundred mobile iPad trolleys are being rolled out across our three hospital sites at LNWH NHS Trust, offering a quicker more cost-effective translation service, currently used by 40,000 patients a year.

Clinical staff will use an interactive app that can translate up to 50 languages on screen or provide a video link to a translator within minutes.

Abdi Yussuf, Language and Interpreting Lead, said: “We serve one of the most diverse communities in the UK and this evolution in technology makes it easier for staff and patients regardless of language barriers.”

The most common languages requiring translation in hospital include Romanian, Gujarati and Arabic.
