Stroke rehabilitation programme wins three awards
July 27, 2026
We’re delighted that this fantastic programme, which we funded, recently received three major awards:
- NHS England Excellence Awards
- London Region for Working in Partnership - Royal College of Physicians Excellence in Patient Care Awards
- Hospital to Community Award
- Eric Watts Patient Engagement Award
The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust Stroke Rehabilitation Programme partnered up with Chelsea FC Foundation and Watford FC Foundation to offer supervised physical activity, health coaching and peer support using the clubs' facilities.
The initiative gives people recovering from stroke the confidence to rebuild their lives.
Feedback from 100 participants showed 95% of the programme's participants felt more confident exercising by themselves, 85% were still exercising after three months, and weekly physical activity averaged four hours.
There are now plans to expand the programme across London and develop an integrated cardiac, renal and metabolic rehabilitation model using the same community approach.
Well done to everyone involved. You certainly deserve these awards.
